What is Massage Therapy?
Massage Therapy is the manipulation of soft tissues within the body to help promote healing. By using manual techniques involving fixed or movable pressure, kneading, vibration, and passive range of motion, a massage therapist can encourage a wide range of benefits to one's health and well-being. A massage has the power to increase circulation, enhance tissue healing, relax the muscles, improve posture, encourage flexibility/mobility, and give one a better sense of self-awareness within their body.
Massage Therapy is considered to be one of the world's oldest health care practices as it's use dates back over 4,000 years in China. Modern massage practices orginate from Sweden, hence the term "Swedish massage," and was brought to the United States in the 1850s.
Since this time, massage has grown in popularity and is recognized for it's therapeutic effects. Some like to refer to massage as a form of "preventative healthcare," as the tremendous health benefits can truly improve one's health and encourage a state of ease within the body.
